How to Install and Customize the Live Chat Widget

Installing the Chat Widget


The Kamili Help Desk chat widget is a lightweight (<50KB) script that adds live chat to your website.


Step 1: Get Your Widget Code

Go to Settings > Channels > Live Chat > Widget Code and copy the JavaScript snippet.


Step 2: Add to Your Website

Paste the snippet before the closing tag on every page where you want chat available. The widget loads asynchronously and won't slow down your page.



Step 3: Customize Appearance

Under Settings > Channels > Live Chat > Appearance, configure:

  • Position: Bottom-left or bottom-right
  • Colors: Match your brand palette
  • Logo: Upload your company logo
  • Welcome message: Set the greeting text
  • Pre-chat form: Collect name/email before chat starts

  • Step 4: Set Business Hours

    Configure when live agents are available. Outside business hours, the widget shows an offline message form that creates a ticket.


    Advanced: Proactive Messages

    Set up triggers to automatically open the widget based on:

  • Time on page (e.g., open after 30 seconds)
  • Scroll percentage
  • Specific page URL patterns
  • Exit intent detection
